Accredited Online Universities

Look for an online degree program with appropriate nationally and regional accredition.

The role and purpose of the accreditation agency is to the review of a university's faculty, admissions procedures, accademic degree programs content, recruiting methods to ensure minimum standards for quality education are met and to ensure that the nationally accredited online universities are accountable for quality and results of the education they provide.

In the USA there are also Specialized and Professional Accrediting bodies/agencies, accrediting programs such as MBAs or Engineering degrees. Visit the Council of Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) website - http://www.chea.org/Directories/special.cfm to view these agencies.

Check whether a certain agency is accredited on the U.S. Department of Education (USDE) website - http://www.ed.gov/admins/finaid/accred/accreditation_pg4.html#Nationally%20Recognized

Make sure that the online university you enrolled with has a national or regional fullly accredition status for the following reasons :

  • Many employers are more likely to recognized an online degree program which has been accredited from an accredited online universities
  • Earning your online degree program from accredited online universities will save you a few years getting a fake online degree that is considered useless by employers.
  • Students who want federal or state grants and loans need to attend a fully accredited universities,colleges.
  • To transfer credits to accredited universities, your credits must come from a school with recognised regional accreditation.
